Oatka Creek Park • July 2

Barn Swallow fledglings patiently waiting for a parent to return with more food.

Barn Swallow fledglings. They quickly lost interest in me and returned to scanning for their meal ticket!

Pileated Woodpecker male juvenile. Visually it is difficult to tell this bird was born this year: the eye is tan, not yellow, and the plumage overall has a very fresh look. The big giveaway was its behavior and vocalizations which was like that of a young toddler running through the woods, excited and curious about everything. There was also a sibling just out of shot.
