Monarch

Monarch

Belted Kingfisher juvenile. Note the that large, upper band across the chest is cinnamon colored and not dark blue like the wing and head feathers. This is the sign of a first year bird.

Green Frog

Meadowhawk. According to Dragonflies through Binoculars, “Male Cherry-Faced and Ruby Meadowhawks essentially must be identified under a 20x microscope.” Even better is “In the northeast the Cherry-Faced and Ruby Meadowhawks … hybridize.” So a red-colored meadowhawk it is!
