Typical "sugar sand" road in South Jersey.

Spring Azure. This is almost always the view of this small butterfly when it is perched, i.e., with its wings closed. For three years I have been trying to get a picture with its wings opened.

Spring Azure. Wow! This butterfly actually opened its wings for me!

Spring Azure. Let's hope I don't have to wait another three years for the next similar photo-op!

Fish Crow. Like the chickadees, it is almost impossible to visually tell the difference between the American Crows we have in Rochester and the Fish Crows in South Jersey. And, again like the chickadees, once they open their mouths all mystery is removed. Fish Crows have a characteristic "eh-eh" that sounds just like it is emphatically saying no! They also have a nasal sound that is different from American Crows.
