Broad Street Bridge • August 24

Black-crowned Night Heron. In the heart of downtown Rochester by the Broad Street Bridge over the Genesee River is a lone tree. A family of Black-crowned Night Herons decided to use this tree as a migration stopover point for at least a few days.

Black-crowned Night Heron. For a birder the access to this tree was very limited, meaning it was very easy for the herons to hide behind the leaves and be virtually undetectable. It took some patience to wait out these birds in the hopes they would show themselves for a picture or two.

Black-crowned Night Heron. There was at least one juvenile in the group.
