Black Creek Park • April 6

Eastern Chipmunk. For as common as this animal is, it is very elusive photographically (unless, perhaps, when food is involved). This little guy was playing statue between two large trees, hoping not be detected. The minute I lowered my camera, it was off like a shot.

Mourning Cloak. In the days after this picture was taken, the temperature dropped and these butterflies disappeared, back hibernating in some tree trunk crevice until the next spring warmup.
