Bear Swamp • March 28

Carolina Wren. This year's annual spring trip to the Pine Barrens of South Jersey did not coincide with the start of song bird migration, unfortunately. Old Man Winter had yet to cede his dominance! The only birds about were the hardy permanent residents, like this Carolina Wren.

Carolina Wren. Actually, area backyard feeders had more birds than the wilderness regions.

Carolina Wren. I did witness this wren and another wren in another part of the swamp sing back and forth for an extended period of time. That was fun!
