Oatka Creek Park • June 25

Great Blue Heron

Cedar Waxwing. The waxwings have been massing at the creek of late, flycatching bugs over the water.

Common Yellowthroat. Every wildlife photographer has their list of "uncooperative" subjects. Prior to this year, Common Yellowthroat was certainly on mine. This year I have been fortunate that a yellowthroat has decided to nest right at the start of Trout Run Trail, probably not ten feet from the trail itself. He has a favorite perch from which to defend his territory. Once I figured this out, I simply need to wait a few moments after hearing the yellowthroat sing and he will fly to his perch.

Common Yellowthroat. Of course, after this year's nesting season, the game board gets reset to zero and finding good photographic scenarios for Common Yellowthroats may return to very few and far between.
