Oatka Creek Park • March 2

Oatka Creek Park, Monroe, US-NY

Comments:     It was a windy and overcast 51F hike in Oatka today. Spring migration continues to pick up with my first Killdeer flyover of the season for the park. The robin migration wave seemed to have moved on as only modest numbers were found. The flock of House Sparrows near the parking lot has grown. Pileated Woodpeckers and a Brown Creeper gave me nice photo-ops. Red-winged Blackbird numbers continue to grow with most of today's observations being flyovers of small 'chack'ing groups. However, three Red-wings were singing from the swamp near the parking lot.  Canada Geese numbers took a big jump with many large flocks filling the airspace. Finally, I spied my first chipmunk of the season, as it scurried mightily to avoid my direct gaze.
