Comments:     It was a snowy 35F early morning birding hike in Oatka today. The hike started in a rain that slowly transformed into a rain/snow mix and then into full snow with well formed snowflakes. In an extremely quiet wooded section of Black Billed Cuckoo Trail I heard a single buzz. Quickly examining all the nearby trees, I found a Brown Creeper climbing *down* a tree a bit. Shortly thereafter it turned around and resumed a more typical upward route. I followed it as it explored its next four trees. It strictly adhered to standard creeper modality by flying to the base of a tree and working its way upwards until flying to the base of the next tree. I caught up with a crow mobbing of a Red-tailed Hawk, arriving in enough time to appreciated the umbrella of raucous crows with the hawk underneath. Moments later the hawk flushed and the large flock of crows followed with a synchronization usually reserved for starlings this time of year. My owl imitations over Warbler Loop stirred up a Hermit Thrush, though precious little else. The creek continues to be virtually devoid of birds of late.
