Ontario Beach Park • November 28

Ontario Beach and Charlotte Pier, Monroe, US-NY

Protocol: Incidental
Comments:     It was a profoundly cloudy and 44F noontime walk through Ontario Beach Park today. A colleague from work and I took a quick spin through the park over the lunch hour to look for Snowy Owls. Starting at Charlotte Pier and working our way west, we finally found a Snowy Owl atop the bath house at the western edge of the park. It alternated between alertly scanning the area with a nearly full 360 degree swivel of its head, and closing its eyes and catching a few winks from our perspective. After taking several pictures, we moved back eastward through the park for one more scan. No more owls were found, but we did come upon a nearly eye level Cooper's Hawk that was in the process of eating a fresh kill, bright blood on its bill. We backed off far enough for the hawk to resume its meal, took a few pictures and left, calling is a very successful lunch break!
