Comments:     It was a cloudy, gloomy, and 45F late afternoon birding hike in Oatka today. It was a very quiet afternoon with precious little bird activity. There were some highlights, however. As I approached the bridge over the creek, a noisy Belted Kingfisher started rattling and flying back and forth across the creek from perch to perch. It pretty much rattled nonstop as I walked down the side of the creek, regardless of whether I froze and hid, or not. At the far end of the trail, a Great Blue Heron flushed before I knew it was there. It was a good night for Golden-crowned Kinglets, as the overall quiet made their vocalizations stand out loud and clear. The other species on the list were mostly brief vocalizations or sightings.
