Comments:     It was a cloudy and 32F sunrise birding hike in Oatka today. Today was Rusty Blackbird Day with a large migrant flock of blackbirds arriving in the park just as I left my car. I later found them perched in a few adjacent trees in the fields along White Tail Trail. The perched flock consisted of about 23-25 birds (I counted three times) with approximately 15 Rusty Blackbirds and 8 Red-winged Blackbirds. There was also a pair of European Starlings, but I think they were interlopers and not part of the flock, per se. I got several diagnostic pictures as I slowly closed range, but my camera then died, probably due to the condensation that was forming on everything this morning. (It later resumed working once warmed up and dried out.) So, good shots will have to wait for another day. Hopefully, the Rusties will linger for a few days, as they did last year. Otherwise, it was a normal outing with a particularly fun and loudly singing Carolina Wren that cycled through its vocal repertoire as if showing off its mastery of the art form!

Tufted Titmouse. The seed probably came from the feeder on the adjacent private property.

American Goldfinch

These ruins are probably from the gypsum mining days of the late 1800's to early 1900's. I was exploring a new trail for me.

Fall colors. It looks like we are at peak color now.
