Comments:     It was a partially sunny and 59F early afternoon birding hike in Oatka today. The first half of the walk was under cloudy skies, wind, and occasional sprinkles. The second half was calm, under pure blue skies, and in full late day sunshine. The highlight came along creek when six Common Mergansers launched from the water and headed away in the upstream direction. Today was also a good day for Red-tailed Hawks as I had one perching by the creek and another soaring over the soccer fields by the lodge. Finally, I unsuccessfully played hide-and-seek with a Pileated Woodpecker that was moving among the trees near the southern bank of the creek. The instant I had even a semi-clear view for the picture, it was off to a different location.
