Middle Settlement Lake • September 22

Middle Settlement Lake, Herkimer, US-NY
Sep 22, 2011 11:51 AM - 3:56 PM
Protocol: Traveling
6.9 mile(s)
Comments:     It was a cloudy, rainy, and sunny early afternoon hike. Weather-wise, it was an Adirondack little bit of everything! In addition to the regulars, a brief flock of warblers passed by at one point. A Winter Wren was found appearing to guard a bit of territory, as it was near the same place three hours later on the return trip. At Middle Settlement Lake a Ruffed Grouse flushed in response to our close approach, though we had no idea the bird was there beforehand. On the trip back out, a Hermit Thrush popped up near the end to give us a good look-over before finally returning to cover.
