Black Bear Mountain • September 20

Black Bear Mountain, Hamilton, US-NY
Sep 20, 2011 1:38 PM - 4:23 PM
Protocol: Traveling
5.0 mile(s)
Comments:     Shortly after starting out, the clouds cleared and the sun came out. Shortly thereafter a classic mixed fall migrant flocked moved through the area. Spotted with the chickadees were a Red-eyed Vireo, a Golden-crowned Kinglet, a Tennessee Warbler, and a Wilson Warbler, though other warblers were seen but unidentified in the whirlwind of birds.  Later on, a Ruffed Grouse suddenly flushed from near the trail. On the return trip, the source of soft insect like sounds was revealed when a male Black-throated Blue Warbler responded nicely to my spishing. Finally, near the end a Red-breasted Nuthatch was found accompanying a chickadee or two.
