Oatka Creek Park • May 22

It was a cloudy 59F sunrise birding hiking in Oatka today. Spring migrant activity picked up a bit today with Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, and Bay-breasted Warblers. I saw a pair of American Restarts having a difference of opinion around the swamp at the base of Maple Hill. The Black-billed Cuckoo was a call and numbers for Alder Flycatchers and Red-eyed Vireos seemed high today. Numbers for Indigo Buntings are also increasing. Finally, I had my first-of-the-season Ruby-throated Hummingbird for Oatka today, though I see in eBird that someone else reported a hummer for Oatka yesterday. It is always interesting to see a hummer perched on a power line that is as big around as the bird! :-)
