Oatka Creek Park • May 2

It was a cloudy and 55F late afternoon birding hike in Oatka today. Bird diversity continues on the upswing at Oatka with today's addition to the season list being Barn Swallow. The other highlight was getting pictures of a Blue-winged Warbler with yellow wing bars. Towhees were so numerous and vocal, they were starting to make it hard to hear the other birds. Rose-breasted Grosbeaks were at several locations, as well, throughout the park. Catbirds are swelling in numbers and volume and Yellow-rumped Warblers were simply *everywhere*. :-) Finally, as I was nearing the end of White Tail Trail, I spied a pair of silent Brown Thrashers fly low across the trail and then perch back-to-back on an eye-level perch. Up until that point, the Brown Thrashers had been conspicuous in their absence on today's walk. My first pictures of the year of a Wood Thrush rounded out an excellent hike!
